Call for Contributions
Open Call for Submissions
愚地 Ideocies is an independent, alternative platform bridging the social sciences, technology, and the humanities. We rethink knowledge production, sharing, and experience through interdisciplinary dialogue, critical experimentation, and young-scholar-led exchange.
As a network and collaborative community, we promote dissemination beyond traditional academic barriers while maintaining theoretical rigor, collective inquiry, and public relevance.
Our publication is the main outlet for works from these activities, including essays, reflections, translations, event syntheses, and experimental pieces. We also welcome standalone contributions from emerging voices, students, independent researchers, practitioners, and thinkers across disciplines.
We invite contributions that engage with our core interests
- Interdisciplinary intersections between social sciences, technology, and the humanities
- Alternative modes of knowledge production, sharing, and dissemination
- Critical experimentation in theory, practice, and digital cultures
- Young scholar perspectives on contemporary societal and technological transformations
- Cross-cultural exchange, translation, and underrepresented voices in global scholarship
- Responses to concepts such as intermediation, mediation, networked communities, algorithmic influence, or cultural critique in the digital age
Formats We Welcome
We welcome a wide range of formats and lengths, including but not limited to:
- Original essays and critical analyses (1,500–5,000 words)
- Short critical reflections, personal responses, or interventions (400–1,000 words)
- Book, film, exhibition, platform, or media reviews
- Translations of key texts with introductory commentary
- Event recaps, reading group syntheses, or multi-author responses
- Interviews with scholars, practitioners, or artists
- Experimental or hybrid forms (poetic essays, narrative reflections, creative-theory blends)
- Proposals for ongoing series or themed collections
Pieces should be provocative yet constructive, accessible across disciplines, and offer intellectual depth — ideally highlighting implications for scholarship, public discourse, collective action, or practice. We encourage vivid prose, concrete examples, historical or personal context, and thoughtful use of images, media embeds, or multimedia elements where they strengthen the argument.
Submission Process
Submissions are accepted year-round with no fixed deadlines. We review and publish on a rolling basis to ensure a dynamic and responsive process. Contributors can expect to receive feedback within two to three weeks after submission. This timeline helps early-career scholars plan and manage their expectations effectively.
To propose a contribution, please use our contact form on the website or email us. Please ensure your submission adheres to our formatting guidelines, including preferred citation styles. Making these preparations in advance will help us quickly review your work and provide feedback.
Your pitch should include:
- A brief pitch (2–4 paragraphs) outlining:
- —The core idea or argument
- —Proposed format and approximate length
- —How it aligns with Ideocies' mission and themes
- —Any relevant personal or professional background
- Optional: Full draft (if ready), abstract, or sample section
We provide feedback on promising pitches, which may proceed to outline, full draft, and collaborative editing in one or two rounds. Our editorial process emphasizes mentorship and support, especially for emerging contributors and non-native English writers.
Additional Opportunities
Critical Reflections (400–800 words)
This flexible category welcomes personal experiences, theoretical responses, creative pieces, or brief commentary on current issues. Broad prompts are encouraged and the format is ideal for students and early-career contributors.
Guest-Edited Series or Themed Collections
We invite proposals for multi-piece series related to events, programs, or timely topics. Please include an outline, potential contributors, and a rationale.
Event-Linked Content
If you have participated in our webinars, reading groups, symposia, or gatherings, we encourage you to submit recaps, reflections, or collaborative pieces.
All published contributions will appear on our site with author bios, dates, and categories for easy discovery. We also promote published work through our network, events, and social channels. We invite contributors to become active members of our community by joining our events, engaging with other members through our network channels, or even applying to be part of our editorial team.
We particularly encourage submissions from students, young scholars, independent thinkers, and underrepresented perspectives. Modest compensation may be available for select pieces, subject to our resources.
